Stairs and landing carpet

Stair carpet, measured and fitted for your staircase

Choose the carpet and its cutting plan together, with fitting arranged through local specialists.

Stair carpet needs to suit the way your staircase is built, not just the colour of the hallway. Kent Carpet Warehouse supplies carpet from its own stock and arranges stair carpet fitting through trusted, fully vetted local fitters, who are not our employees. Onsite measuring is available in most Kent areas. Send the staircase details to either warehouse to start an itemised enquiry.

This page is about replacing the fitted carpet across stair treads, risers and a landing. It is not a stair-runner or edge-binding offer. If you want carpet for stairs and landing together, explain whether the landing continues into bedrooms or ends at a doorway. That boundary helps establish where a change of carpet, a join or a threshold might be sensible.

Choosing the best stair carpet for the way you live

The best carpet for stairs is not necessarily the deepest or softest carpet you can find. A staircase concentrates foot traffic along a narrow route, and the carpet bends over the front of each tread. Start with a carpet intended for stair use, then compare its construction, density and care instructions. Twist and loop piles deserve consideration, but the suitability of the particular product matters more than its category name. Ask to see how the pile looks when bent, rather than judging a flat sample alone. If pets use the stairs, discuss claws and loops before choosing.

A landing is part of the plan, not an afterthought

Stairs and landing carpet should be planned as connected surfaces. A straight flight, a turn and a broad landing can call for quite different cuts even when the total floor area looks small. Note any winders, half-landings, cupboards and door recesses. Record where the landing meets existing flooring and whether you want those rooms to match. Pile direction can alter the shade you see from below or above, so it belongs in the cutting plan. A rough sketch is useful for an initial conversation; it does not replace checking the shapes before cutting.

Finding cheap stair carpet without buying the wrong piece

For cheap stair carpet, first establish which pieces will actually fit the flight. Remnants and roll ends can be worth considering when their dimensions and pile direction suit the staircase. Adding up the tread areas alone cannot tell you whether a piece works: cuts must be laid out in the correct orientation. A bargain that needs an unsuitable join is not a sensible saving. Bring the dimensions and discuss the whole staircase rather than choosing an offcut by its ticket price. There is no fixed stair price on this page because the material and cutting requirements vary.

Underlay, edges and doors deserve attention

Underlay is stocked at both warehouses, but the appropriate choice for stairs should be considered with the carpet and the stair shape. Softness is not the only criterion where the carpet wraps a nosing. Existing gripper, landing thresholds and nearby doors also need discussion, especially when the replacement floor will be thicker. Tell the team about worn or loose stair parts rather than expecting carpet to conceal them. Structural repairs are a separate question to resolve before covering the staircase. Ask what the fitted quote includes and what preparation remains your responsibility.

Arranging a staircase measure and a fitted quote

Start with the number of steps, any turns, the landing outline and your preferred carpet style. Pictures can clarify a doorway or unusual corner, while rough measurements let the warehouse begin discussing options. Measuring on site in most Kent areas checks details that are difficult to capture in a message. Carpet comes from warehouse stock and fitting is arranged with vetted local fitters, not an employed installation team. You can also buy supply only and use measurements provided by your own fitter. Confirm access, preparation and the scope of the job before ordering, without assuming a fitting date.

Your fitting questions

Can you arrange carpet fitting on a turning staircase?
Describe the turns and any wedge-shaped steps when you enquire. We arrange fitting through vetted local fitters and can book onsite measuring in most Kent areas to check the staircase before the carpet is cut.
Can the stairs and landing use the same carpet?
They can be considered together, provided the chosen carpet suits stair use and sufficient material is available for the cutting plan. Include the landing shape and connecting doorways in your enquiry.
How do I find stair carpet near me?
Use either Kent warehouse to discuss stock and arranged fitting. Contact Maidstone on 01622 828445 or Gillingham on 01634 481102 with your location and staircase details; measuring coverage is checked for your address.
