What is a roll end, and why is it cheaper?
A roll end is what is left of a full roll once most of it has been sold. The carpet is identical to the rest of that roll. It costs less because the remaining length limits what it can be used for, not because the quality is lower.
Roll ends, remnants and offcuts
The words get used loosely. A roll end is the tail of a roll, often long enough for a room or two. A remnant or offcut is a smaller piece left over from a cut. Both are sold at clearance prices and both are ordinary carpet.
When a roll end is the right answer
Roll ends suit single rooms, small bedrooms, box rooms, home offices, caravans, chalets and any space where you need one piece and nothing more.
They also suit whole houses if you are relaxed about different rooms having different carpet. Plenty of customers do exactly that and spend the savings on a better stair carpet.
When to buy a full roll instead
If you want the same carpet running through several rooms, or through a hall, stairs and landing without a join, you need a length that a roll end may not have. Clearance stock also does not repeat, so if you might want to match it in a year, buy the length now.
