Carpet tiles for offices and heavy use
Laid tile by tile, replaced tile by tile. The most maintainable soft floor there is, and the reason offices have used them for forty years.
A carpet tile floor is not one floor, it is several hundred small ones. That single fact is why they dominate commercial space: a coffee spill, a chair castor blowout or a cable run through the middle of the room costs you one tile rather than a room.
They are increasingly bought for homes as well, mainly for home offices, studios, playrooms and lofts, where the ability to lift a section and put it back is worth more than a seamless finish.

Why commercial fit-outs use them
It is a maintenance decision rather than an aesthetic one, and the same logic applies to a busy home office.
Damage is contained
One tile fails, one tile gets swapped, and nobody has to close the room.
Floor boxes and cabling stay accessible
Anything under the floor can be reached without cutting a carpet you then have to patch.
Wear can be rotated
Tiles from a heavy path can be swapped with tiles from under a desk to even out the life of the floor.
Phased work is possible
You can do one room, one floor or one weekend at a time without a visible join.
Laying patterns change the look completely
The same tile laid monolithic, quarter turned, brick bond or ashlar reads as four different floors. Quarter turning hides shading and wear best, which is why so many offices use it. Monolithic looks closest to a broadloom carpet but shows a worn path sooner.
Carpet tiles at home
In a home office or a loft, tiles let you run cables where you want and change your mind later. They also cope with a chair mat area far better than a broadloom carpet, which crushes. If the room is a lounge or a bedroom, a roll of carpet is still the better feel underfoot and we will say so.

- What are carpet tiles best used for?
- Offices, studios, meeting rooms, home offices, playrooms and lofts. Anywhere that benefits from replacing a single damaged tile instead of a whole floor, or from lifting the floor to reach cabling.
- Do carpet tiles need underlay?
- In most cases no. They are laid with a tackifier onto a prepared subfloor rather than on gripper and underlay like a roll of carpet.
- Can I replace a single damaged tile later?
- That is the main advantage of tiles, and it is why we always suggest keeping a spare box, especially with clearance stock that cannot be reordered.
- Are carpet tiles suitable for a lounge or bedroom?
- You can, but a roll of carpet feels better underfoot in living space. Tiles earn their place where maintenance and access matter more than feel.
